The project involved converting a historic Chicago landmark church and school into a multi family residence. We worked with the existing stained glass mullions to divide spaces and floors, overcoming challenges posed by landmark restrictions on window and door openings. A third-floor addition for the school was carefully designed to remain invisible from the street, preserving the original pedestrian experience of the neighborhood. This approach ensures that the building’s historical character remains intact while accommodating modern needs. Additionally, we addressed significant structural problems to support the new design.
